It possible the voters screw it up sometimes, but that's the system we agree to. What's interesting is that they still support their President by a wide majority, even if you allow a large error in polling accuracy.

What's more likely is that the American electorate can both understand fully the morals and perjury issue, while also understanding its context.. and also appreciate Clinton's other qualities to arrive at a sober judgement of the sum of the man and the job he's doing.

On the other hand the electorate is probably only of average intelligence, doesn't understand the fine points of moral rectitude or the rule of law. Then again the founders understood the dangers of ambition and the wisdom of putting power in the will of the people.
