... But aren't you forgetting that someone can eventually build a better "mousetrap" during the next decade, which might make Cymer's technology obsolete. ... It took Cymer 10 years to build a better mouse trap. And they have been working several years on the next generation devices. The real breakthroughs occur in the manufacturing technology not in the basic process. Everyone understands the physics of next generation processes, but making production tools out of them, capable of reliable large production rates, takes many years' development by highly experienced technologists. Cymer's competitive advantage is in having a large percentage of the world's DUV and soft-Xray experts and production technologists on its staff. Cymer's products will be made obsolete, not by competitors' products, but by next generation Cymer products, IMO. Tulvio
