Musea,

AOL has two big problems down the road.

1) Speed. ATHM is going to pose serious threat to the king of the net, especially when it's backed up by T.

2) Lots of companies offer free service or low fee service compared with AOL. Will AOL be able to keep fighting off these competition or threats?

As far as its business goes, I agree with you. It has to become less of an ISP and more of an E-commerce company. The potential is there, but I don't think that AOL has a seasoned management team as compared with that of MSFT and CSCO. MSFT still has a chance to cause serious damage to AOL. And I don't understand how AOL can be valued at 175 with such a meager cash flow. Although I am currently long this issue, I will have to say that even if it gets a 50% haircut, it' still damn expensive.

good luck,
larry!

Please...remember......

AOL is not fundamentally an ISP....when it started...you could not even really get to the Internet (except via gophers)....

AOL is fundamentally a "content provider and communications facilator (chat rooms are enormously popular) and email is the "killer app"...who receives subscription revenues (like magazines or cable tv)

and AOL gets advertising revenue....and action off Internet sales...(e commerce)... and partnership (combo ad and ecommerce) revenue
I have posted (ad nauseum) about aol's revenue streams...so read my posts..if you are mildly interested in my opinions about how AOL "makes money"..

I know...that now..people think of AOL as an ISP...and it does provide that capability...but it is far....from just being an ISP>..

smiles....Mary
