(off topic) Subject: DOS & Windows 3.1 and a clock with 2 alarms. This clock is free software, and is a DOS program that will continue to run after entering Windows. Able to set two alarms and able to have the time not be displayed on the screen so that only the alarm sound is heard. The instructions manual is 22 pages long, and so that some simple folks like myself can see the forest thru too many trees, I put into one page, this post, enough needed info to get the basics upfront so can start now using it. The command line can be put into AUTOEXEC.BAT or done at DOS prompt as a command line or as a .BAT macro. At the DOS prompt on can change or set or reset things, which includes making changes to the alarm settings. If you have a pc running DOS and find that it does not keep accurate time, then this program if run without any display or alarms set, can help. It is a small digital clock that will always run and has two alarms. The display of the time will be at the top right corner of screen, for example 10:52p, and this display can be turned off (hidden) while any alarm(s) already set will remain on. For example, to start the clock with time being displayed as hour:minute in 12 hour am/pm format, have it displayed in Windows, and set both alarms to each days coffee breaks at work. clock/show/m/1/g/a1:10:30pm/a2:2:30pm clock /v - how the current clock is set up is showned clock /show - have the time displayed on top right corner of screen clock /hide - keep clock running, but do not display the time on screen clock /u - uninstall the clock, so it is no more, gone, bye bye clock /m - display is as hours:minutes clock /s - display is as hours:minutes:seconds clock /1 - 12 hour clock (Standard) clock /2 - 24 hour clock (Military) clock /t - text (clock not displayed in Windows) clock /g - graphics (clock displayed in Windows, if possible) clock /a1:time - sets first alarm clock /a2:time - sets second alarm clock /a1=0 - turns the first alarm off clock /a2=0 - turns the second alarm off The alarm will beep at you five times, with two seconds between each beep. The beep that the clock uses is more like a warble. The word ALARM replaces the time and will flash. Clock is a free program and can be freely copied and distribute as long as it is distributed along with the CLOCK.DOC file. Bret Johnson For use of this clock enough info is in this SI post, but if want more info then the doc file of 12 pages has more options and explainations of use. Also included in doc file is where on Web the creater Bret Johnson can be reached, along with his Web Site of other programs. I tried this with the alarm set while in SI, and I heard the five warbles and saw the ALARM word flash. Works ok but the constant updating of the time in the top right corner of the screen sometimes messed up the stuff on the window being displayed. So I now run with clock /t (text - clock not displayed in Windows). I have no idea if Windows 95/98/99/NT has a DOS Box to go to a DOS prompt. And if so, I have no idea if runs ok there. Doug
