Just 'cause we liberals are concentrated in cities like Austin doesn't diminish our voting strength in national elections.

... in reply to DCF, who wrote: "You need to get off 6th street clear your head."

Hehehe. Good one. :-)

I don't know when you last visited 6th Street but it's become very up-scale & commercial. Except for Esther's Follies and a few blues bars that have somehow survived the 1990s, Sixth is now mostly 18-and over dance clubs and bars that sell cheap shooters.

I prefer to spend my entertainment $$$s at Antone's and La Zona Rosa for my musical entertainment.

FYI, I was liberal in the D/FW area long before I moved to Austin. I also don't buy the conventional wisdom that people naturally lose their youthful penchant for liberal politics as they age. Just look at Ralph Yarborough and James Michener for examples. Oops, they're both dead.

Anyway, nice talking at you.

Regards,
Joel Irby

Exactly when did "liberal" become a bad word?

I think it was sometime during the Reagan years. I remember hearing a variation on merely calling somebody a "liberal": "He's a card-carrying member of the American Civil Liberties Union."

Ooh, that's a bad one. How dare anybody be in favor of civil liberties?! That's... un-American.

BTW, DCF, I'm not accusing you of using "liberal" as an insult. It just brought back bad 1980's memories, that's all.

Austin, Texas
(yep, still liberal)
