While it might suggest that, this is clearly not the case, and I suspect you know that. The fact is that the only reason that the Democratically-controlled Congress didn't attempt to impeach Reagan is that they couldn't get the goods on him.

You're right, they probably would have impeached Reagan if they had a smoking gun like Linda Tripp pointing a finger directly at Ronald Reagan. I admit that Clinton probably told at least a white lie when he said he didn't really have sex with "that woman, Miss Lewinsky." That quote wasn't under oath, but even if he did cover up his extramarital affair or multiple affairs while under oath, while that might be perjury, it doesn't rise to the level of impeachability/removability, IMHO. What Reagan's administration did, did rise to the impeachability level. As many people before me have said, if Reagan knew about it he was culpable, and if he didn't know about it, that shows that he wasn't in control of his administration. In the first case, Reagan was clearly impeachable, but in the second case it's doubtful, which is as you say why the Democrats didn't bring him up on impeachment vote.

I still say the Democrats (from 1986 through 1999) have been truer to the framers' intentions. (Sure, they took money from big business when they controlled Congress, just like the GOP are now, and I don't condone that.)

Well said. Cuts through the bull. More to the point, the failure of previous prosecutors or Congresses to do their Constitutional and statutory duty if such be the case, should not excuse Clinton. JLA
