ADSL Modem; New Products Offers Shared ADSL Services, Compliance With G.Lite Hardware Standard STONEHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 1999--Cayman Systems today announced the Cayman ADSL 3220 (single Ethernet connection) and the ADSL 3220H (with 4-port hub), muli-user LAN routers that enable Ethernet users to access the Internet or a remote LAN via shared ADSL services. Both products include Cayman's award-winning SOHO router, with an integrated Alcatel ADSL modem chipset. These one box, customer premise devices allow LAN-wide Internet access over a single ADSL line at rates of up to 8 Mbits/sec. "We created the Cayman ADSL 3220 family because it allows small office LAN users to have an easy-to-buy, easy-to-configure, easy-to-upgrade, single solution for both Internet access and high-speed ADSL services over their existing telephone lines " said Heidi Clark, president and CEO of Cayman Systems. "ADSL is becoming a key technology for expanding the Internet experience. Now even small office/home office LAN users will have the bandwidth for applications like web page downloads and streaming audio and video, telebusiness, video conferencing and collaborative computing in a highly affordable, single box solution." The router part of the ADSL 3220 and 3220H is based upon the Cayman Swift IP software. Swift IP is the basis of all the Cayman broadband routers, including the 2E500 and 2E500H, which won the CTI SOHO router of the year awards in 1997 and 1998. In addition, the routers expand on the 2E500's capabilities by incorporating the newest ADSL DMT chipset technology from Alcatel. They provide full rate ADSL throughput and compliance with both the ANSI T1.413 and the G.Lite hardware standards. They connect with an Alcatel concentrator today, and can easily migrate to future standards via a simple software upgrade. Both the ADSL 3220 and the 3220H come with a license for an unlimited number of users. Thus owners do not have to worry about future license costs or the costs for upgrading to new industry standards. Features The Cayman ADSL 3220 is a full-featured, customer premise ADSL router. It features a 10BaseT Ethernet port for connection to a LAN, a RJ-45 ADSL connection, and provides special security features to allow hosting of web services without risking the integrity of information on the LAN. The retail price for the single connection ADSL 3220 is $639, and the price of the ADSL 3220H with an integrated 4-port hub is $699. Service provider pricing for each product is available by contacting Cayman directly. Like all Cayman routers, the ADSL 3220 and 3220H include a list of features that combine to make installation and maintenance a matter of "zero configuration". This includes software that enables the DHCP server to automatically configure all computers on the LAN, for true plug-and-play installation; the ability for all LAN users to be served with only one IP address; and the ability to manage and monitor the router via a web browser. Both new routers are available now, and will make their debut in the Alcatel booth (#1626) at Comnet '99, in Washington, D.C. January 26-28. Cayman Systems is the customer premise equipment provider of choice for service providers that sell to the small office market. Cayman's plug-and-play routers and turn-key support programs enable CLECs, ISPs, ILECs, and RBOCs to easily deliver Ethernet-to-Internet DSL solutions for their small office customers.
