New Access Wins Best of Show -- Grand Prize; NBase-Xyplex Wins Best Wireless Product

CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 1999-- MRV Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:MRVC - news)
Monday announced that its affiliate, New Access Communications, won the ''Best of Show -- Grand Prize'' last Wednesday at
ComNet '99's New Product Achievement Awards, for its MetroFusion product line.

In addition, NBase-Xyplex, a division of MRV Communications, was awarded the ''Best Wireless Product'' for its Wireless
Fiber Driver.

New Access Communications' MetroFusion system was recognized as the most innovative new product in ComNet/DC '99
New Product Achievement competition. The product line is a new architecture for Dense Wave Division Multiplexing
(DWDM) that enables IP traffic to be dynamically routed to different wavelengths.

MetroFusion is also the first system (of its kind) to integrate DWDM with data switching/routing to enable
any-point-to-any-point communication.

NBase-Xyplex's Wireless Fiber Driver combines WDM Technology and wireless transmission to distribute ATM, SONET
and Gigabit Ethernet to a record distance in free space. This is an industry first in both distance and data rate. The multigigabit
optical link requires no permits from the FCC.

Used when links need to be established quickly or when fiber is unavailable, the device represents a breakthrough in wireless
connectivity.

New Access Communications, located in Santa Barbara, Calif., was established to focus on Dynamic DWDM solutions for the
access distribution market. Founded in March 1998 by Dr. Near Margalit, the inventor of the MetroFusion architecture, it is
dedicated to bringing Dynamic DWDM to the local access loop. Initial funding was provided by MRV Communications
through an equity investment.

NBase-Xyplex, a division of MRV Communications, provides a full complement of fiber-driven switches, routers and access
server products that take networks farther and go faster than ever before.

MRV Communications is a leading manufacturer and marketer of optical networks systems and components. MRV's products
integrate switching, routing, remote-access and fiber-optic transmission systems.

The company designs, manufactures and sells two groups of products: (i) computer networking products, primarily Ethernet
local- area-network (LAN) routing switches, wide-area-network (WAN) and remote-access devices and related equipment
and (ii) fiber-optic components for the transmission of voice, video and data across enterprise, telecommunications and
cable-TV networks.

The company's advanced networking solutions greatly enhance the functionality of LANs and WANs by reducing network
congestion while allowing end users to preserve their legacy investments in pre-existing networks and providing cost-effective
migration paths to next-generation technologies such as Gigabit Ethernet, remote access and voice over IP.

The company's fiber-optic components incorporate proprietary technology that delivers high performance under demanding
environmental conditions.
