<<Swat teams try to restore order

Feb. 1 - Revelry turned to misery as the Denver Broncos' second consecutive Super Bowl victory triggered a second annual round of trouble in Denver and spots around the state.

Rowdies took to the streets minutes after the game ended, fueled by alcohol and a fever that ran wild.

Tear gas flowed in Denver and other cities to quell uprisings by hundreds of unruly fans. Police in riot gear marched through clouds of the stinging gas to disperse crowds in Denver, Grand Junction and Fort Collins.

No number of arrests were available in Denver, where the worst of the trouble broke out. Five Denver officers were treated for minor injuries at Denver Health Medical Center, where eight revelers were also treated for exposure to tear gas. Two others were treated after being assaulted.

Bonfires dotted the landscape downtown, despite Denver's elaborate plans to keep this year's celebration peaceful.

Windows were smashed and tear gas hung in the air at many intersections choked with traffic.

"We ran from Larimer Square to all the way right here,'' said Steve Sivigliano at the corner of Broadway and the 16th Street Mall. "And tear gas was following us the whole way.''

But police, and some people caught up in the chaos, said the response was warranted.

"We're not using excessive force. Sometimes you have to save people from themselves,'' said police spokesman John Wyckoff.

The first sign of trouble came on Larimer when a fire was set in the middle of of the street. >>

My questions are:
If this is going to happen as a result of something "good" how bad could things get if anything does not go right during Y2k the change
and partys?

To what crimes might people, who will burn and break windows without reason, resort if a bank runs out or money or can not conduct business due to computer problems?

How ugly could a crowd(fueled by a once in a century drunk) become without power, automated teller machines, phone, or law enforcement?

"Party like it's 1999"?

NGB is expected to establish a high-frequency radio network from Washington, D.C. to regional centers as a backup to microchips and satellites that could fail causing telephones, modems and pagers to stop working.

"Pick any part of the doom and gloom and you can find all kinds of social unrest in those scenarios," said Col. Dennis Haire, a doctoral candidate in information technology and chief information officer of the Texas National Guard.>>

Please someone tell me the rumor is not true:
I keep hearing the NG commanders have been issued a list (by ATF)
containing name and addresses of "radical" firearm buyers for the last 60 months.
