Ish--Sage used to make the best fly rods.
Their quality is still excellent, I feel however that other companies have caught them. Loomis, Scott, Winston, and some of the Orvis rods are really excellent. They are not cheap though.
I generally feel that if there is much fishing available at all a fly rod is the way to go. The main areas I have found fly rods limiting is in extreme distance (a very rare problem) and in very deep water. After a certain point the fly rod simply can't get down there. For some circumstances though a fly rod is superior. Delicate work on or near the surface, presenting a fly very close to a fish and fishing very small patterns a fly rod is unsurpassed at.
All the Best
