NEW YORK, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- RARE MEDIUM GROUP, INC. (Nasdaq: RRRR), www.raremedium.com, has appointed Suresh V. Mathews to the post of President and Chief Operating Officer of its Rare Medium, Inc. subsidiary, it was announced today by Glenn S. Meyers, who remains as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of parent company, Rare Medium Group, Inc.

Said Mr. Meyers: "We are delighted to have an executive of Mr. Mathews stature join the Rare Medium team. He has held numerous senior level management positions at such world class organizations as Quaker State, PepsiCo, Booz-Allen and Hamilton, Sprint and GTE. His extensive experience and skill sets in the business strategy, operations, and technology arena will be invaluable to Rare Medium as we continue to position the Company as a leading contender in Internet Solutions and E-Commerce. Prior to Rare Medium, Mr. Mathews was Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Quaker State Corporation. He has over 22 years of information technology experience. His other recent management positions include Vice President and General Manager of POS 2000 and as a Chief Information Officer at PepsiCo Inc. as well as the Chief Information Officer of Booz-Allen and Hamilton, Inc., the leading business consulting firm.

Mr. Mathews has extensive experience in systems development in a broad variety of business environments. At Quaker State, Mr. Mathews was responsible for implementing new supply chain and core, operating processes from the ground up supported by a record setting eight month SAP implementation as well as the establishment of an extranet to support E-Commerce. At PepsiCo Inc., Mr. Mathews created POS2000, a strategic initiative to transform restaurant operations with technology in over 25,000 KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell stores worldwide. POS2000 became the foundation for MicroSoft's ActiveStore(TM), an industry standard.

At Booz-Allen and Hamilton, Mr. Mathews transformed a limited information technology function into a multi-national, global capability. Feature implementations included: one of the first implementations of a global VAN using ATM and Frame Relay technologies; one of the first implementations of a global Intranet using Netscape technologies; and one of the first global Knowledge Management and Intellectual Capital systems.

Mr. Mathews is also qualified and well versed in the telecommunications industry -- having spent several years in various senior technology and management capacities in GTE, Telenet and Sprint -- including a key role as divisional CIO of Sprint's National Accounts Division.
