InfoWorld describes the award as honoring the overall winner among "the best new computer networking hardware, software, services, and solutions debuting at ComNet" (Business Wire, Jan. 19, 1999). The MetroFusion product line is a new architecture for Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) that lets IP traffic be dynamically routed to different wavelengths.
