I thought some of you might like to see exactly who Frost and Sullivan are: frostandsullivan.com - they were quoted in JAWS' last PR.

They recently published a report entitled "Market Engineering Research For The U.S. E-Mail Encryption Applications Market". It is a copyrighted article so I can not reproduce it in its entirety, but following are some excerpts:

- the e-mail encryption application market is in the developing stage of growth and rapid revenue growth is expected to continue throughout the forecasted period (1998-2004)

- companies want to save money by using electronic communication, but they are troubled by the lack of security. If they send a strategic plan or financial information via e-mail, there are many points where it could be intercepted by competitors. The need to secure corporate e-mail will be a strong impetus for growth in e-mail encryption applications throughout the forecast period.

- ongoing news stories of security breaches of networks will continue to raise awareness of the vulnerability of e-mail messages and the Internet and drive companies to seek e-mail encryption solutions.

- need for confidentiality of Legal and Healthcare Communications. As law firms implement e-mail encryption, they will also want their clients to have encryption and will recommend or even assist with the implementation of these solutions.

- file encryption applications are an important complementary application that helps to drive sales of e-mail encryption applications.

- as companies realize that e-mail encryption applications can provide a secure means of transmitting sensitive materials at significant cost savings over time, demand for these applications will increase during the forecast period.

- more education is needed to encourage e-mail users to view it as a necessary insurance policy.

- revenue forecasts for e-mail encryption:
'98 - $165M
'99 - $279M
'00 - $410M
'01 - $512M
'02 - $604M
'03 - $671M
'04 - $718M

- in early '98, over 1B e-mail messages sent over corporate networks daily

This is why I'm excited by the prospects of JAWS' e-mail encryption software.
