As for the 100 vs the 500, you might have missed my post a week ago - they are pretty much identidal if you overlay them - both are capitalization weighted, so 14 stocks make up over 75% of the movement, and DELL and MSFT made up the bulk of it for 3/4ts oflast year.

If you trade the options on the indices, then it makes a difference, as although the charts are exactly the same pattern, the % change is different due to the price of the options itself. I only use the indices as the base performance for a retraceent oscillator I developed for the trading strategy for mutuals, and as such, it makes no difference whether I use the OEX or SPX. I used to have that overlay chart on the website, if you want I can repost.
