Iomega is dropping the ball.....right on its foot. The company must do more to 'educate' people buying boxes w/ ZIP Built In.

An old friend of mine who teaches math in Japan, recently bought a Compaq 5170. From an e-mail received today, John says, ".....I do have a Zip drive but I haven't the foggiest idea what the hell it is or does."

If Iomega isn't getting the msg across to this guy, they don't have a prayer of getting the average buyer of 'Built In' to rush out and buy disks. In this case, it's an even bigger blunder because this guy is in a position to influence many potential Zip buyers and users.

IOM must upgrade whatever info they provide with the 'Built In' boxes. In fact, they ought to send a letter to every single 'Built In' buyer who registers the purchase with either IOM or Compaq or XYZ. Just say "Thanks"....."Lucky you"....."Here's 10 or 110 reasons why you're going to be really, really glad you have a ZIP!"

Anyone else concerned about the possibly huge number of 'stealth Zips' out there, please send your thoughts and/or suggestions to the company. I sent mine through IR. If someone has Jodie's e-mail address, please publish.

IMO, this can and must be fixed NOW!
