A lot of people always oh and ah when the funds his firm manages get involved. Remember they play for themselves and not to be nice to you. Most of the time, stock related transactions are made by sub-advisors of Soros, not by Druckenmiller (never Soros, he's moved onto world politics)thus people like Joe Barton of White Rock Advisors (A Soros Sub-advisor) will make investments and then let the press know that Soros has invested.

Then when retail buyers jump in on the news, he shorts against them to box the position. He then crosses the two to net out the position. Note that fund managers do not have to report short positions, only long. A lot of retail investors get screwed following "Soros" et al around. If you want to invest with Soros, just buy the Quantum or Quota Funds (check FT for quotes, all offshore)
