If Perot had not run we would have a different pres. right now,and I do agree a lot of the GOP voted for Perot, but the 49% that voted for Clinton prob. did not include many "swing" votes. Yes, I thank God for Perot. Without Perot, Bush might have won. I do question whether the 49% of the voters who chose Clinton were really mostly core Democratic voters. I think, rather, that 75% of the 49% (i.e. about 36% of all voters) are solidly Democratic voters, leaving about 12% of all voters who swung into the Clinton camp. See what I was talking about as far as the pendulum goes?? You are a confessed liberal so the "religious right" must be evil in your mind. Whether you want to believe it or not, this USA was founded on many of the "moral codes" that you hate. First, I am an admitted liberal. Calling me a confessed liberal makes it sound like some kind of sin or crime. Second, I believe the Religious Right is evil not because I'm liberal but because I fundamentally oppose the Religious Right's attempts to impose their version of morality on others via government fiat. I am, in fact, a Christian, but as a left-wing Christian I feel that the Christian Coalition and its ilk gives Christianity a bad name. Whether you want to believe it or not, this USA was founded on many of the "moral codes" that you hate. You're twisting my words. I don't hate the moral codes per se. It's their imposition by law that I hate and oppose every chance I get. BTW, the USA was founded on the principles of religious freedom and self-rule, i.e. representative democracy. Private morality was and is also an important factor in building a nation, but it's just that---private. The Founders intended the government to stay out of people's private lives, which is why Congress should stay out of Clinton's personal affairs. The Puritans were the Religious Right of their day, but they were content to rule their own colony (Massachusetts) with iron-fisted religious government and didn't try to impose their system on the rest of the colonies.
