Mike,
I see you're the same old dyed in the woold bear when is comes to the PC industry so I will just let their stock prices speak for themselves. I'll have to go look at what you are saying about the internet stocks. That ought to be a dousey.

What I do want to know is what you are hearing about Dell using an AMD chip. This would complete a complete wipe out of any all Intel Top Tier boxmakers and would be good for at least 5 points in AMD stock just as the Gateway announcement was good for 3 or 4 this morning.
What you don't seem to grasp however is that Intel still has a lead in
production and process technology....and they aren't sitting on their hands so any demise in Intel won't be an overnight thing and new technology in the future may give an opportunity to regain market share. AMDs ramping of speed grades has been good of late but they recently had a 2 month setback due to a design problem...or they would be on equal speed grade with Intel. Now they won't catch up until the K7 if then.

As far as CPQ, I think they have turned last years inventory problem around nicely. Their EPS is no longer a bust and they are now doing over $1,000,000 a day in direct, build to order sales after beginning thet program only two months ago. It's easy to see why Gateway went with AMD...they had to with CPQ breathing down their neck. With CPQ gaining share on Dell, Dell might have to rethink their Intel only strategy too.

Mike,
I might add. CPQ really bumbled this Alta VIsta spinoff/IPO whatever announcement. A lot of money skipped over to Dell. Why hold CPQ when you aren't going to get any AV...
