I use the "change order" feature of E*Trade
quite frequently, and my new order has only
ever taken effect if the old order was
successfully cancelled.

fwiw, edits can be treated as separate transactions.

Sometimes when you are dealing with legal stuff like fingerprint records as an example, taking a new set of prints is a separate transaction. When the process was converted to electronic means, Digital biometrics chose that method at the request of their customer to treat edits like separate transactions.

That's why their machines behave that way to this day....

I suspect your company is probably thinking of Edits in that methodology / mode of thinking.
