tippet, I do recall reading in a newsletter that it has been a major factor but i don't recall the specifics . I may have a url with such info but no time to look now one good place to look is Michael hodges site . The outsized capital gains also stimulate the economy by increasing consumption and reducing the savings rate. Mike

Tip: the IRS has collected statistics on sources of tax revenue, one set of statistics is on sale of capital assets. It is only up to date through 1996, the IRS has assembled the statistics from 1990 through 1996 in a variety of formats:

I downloaded some of it, but am not going to look at it at this time, so if you find out anything interesting, let us know.
