With this acquisition they have virtually met 1999 EPS goals. Now, can they exceed expectations?

ETN announces an acquisition of a hydraulics company and the stock price goes down. ETN's Vice-president of Hydraulics leaves the company and the stock price goes up. Interesting.

I think the stock price went down because ETN said it would issued more shares (dilute earnings) to pay for the acquisition. I think the stock price started going up a few days ago because Moody thinks the acquisition will increase earnings and cash flow.
