Xicor Launches ISO 7816 Compliant Memory IC's; New Family Targets
Exploding Smart Card Market

Jump to first matched term

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 1999--XICOR, Inc. (NASDAQ: XICO) today announced its
76F102/200/400 ISO 7816 compliant secure memory devices. These products fully meet the requirements
of the smart card industry and provide exceptional levels of security without the overhead of expensive
controller-based encryption solutions.

These products feature configurable memory partitioning that allows the user to define arbitrarily sized
memory blocks each with individual read and write passwords. Moreover, the family fully supports the ISO
7816 response-to-reset protocol, providing the ultimate in security via custom, masked programmed
"signatures" for individual designs.

"The smart card market is exploding, and Xicor's new secure memory products will help fuel this growth,"
said Wayne Eng, director of digital products marketing. "These new products are fully compliant with the
ISO 7816 standard required for smart card applications.

"Xicor's advanced security algorithms, offer customers 'encryption-like' levels of security, without the
overhead of expensive microcontrollers. This is ideal for applications such as loyalty programs, drivers
licenses, passports, transportation toll collection, and health cards," continued Eng.

"With the ISO 'custom response-to-reset,' we can literally have a custom signature fabricated into the part
that is unique to a specific design. This offers the ultimate in smart card security," said Eng.

The F76 family comes in 1K, 2K and 4K densities. The 1K device offers low cost and high security (a 64
bit password) in a small package while the 2 and 4K devices include two 64 bit passwords, 2 and 4K bits
in onearray and a retry counter than only allows 8 tries for tamper resistance. Standby current for all
devices is less than 1(mu)A.
