Business Wire AUTO MAKERS TACKLING Y2K -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHARLOTTE, NC--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 1999--Most individuals, many companies, and a disturbingly large percentage of governments seem to lack a sense of urgency regarding year 2000; not the automobile industry. In 1997 GM took its computer systems on a Y2K test drive. They selected a plant scheduled to be closed, set the computer network on January 1, 2000, and rebooted. The entire plant closed itself down.
