Business Wire AUTO MAKERS TACKLING Y2K

CHARLOTTE, NC--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 1999--Most individuals,
many companies, and a disturbingly large percentage of governments
seem to lack a sense of urgency regarding year 2000; not the
automobile industry.
In 1997 GM took its computer systems on a Y2K test drive. They
selected a plant scheduled to be closed, set the computer network on
January 1, 2000, and rebooted. The entire plant closed itself down.
GM is currently working with Ford, Chrysler, and approximately
40,000 of its suppliers to make the Y2K deadline. According to
Industry Week, as of June 1998, Chrysler was 82% compliant and its
suppliers were 72% compliant.

issue. A record of companies who have and have not resolved the Y2K
issue is available to consumers free of charge at www.y2kalert.org.

survey and are to be commended for their proactive stance regarding
the Y2K issue.
