Question to anyone who has knowledge on how orders are filled.

Decided to add to my position in Dell this morning (listening to Kemble). Placed a market order (with Schwab) at the open to buy 200 shares. At 9:48 I received confirmation that my order was partially filled at 102 11/16. At 9:53 I received another confirmation that the balance of my order was filled at 101 7/8. The stock opened today at 101 7/8.

How is it that with such high volume, my entire order was not filled? More importantly, I checked the movement of the stock and it appears as though the stock did not move back to 101 7/8 after hitting 102 11/16. I know we're only talking about a difference of 13/16 of a point(=$81) but I was just curious.

Thanks.

Kevin

Jon, I must admit that this is the first time I have seen Dell move up in leaps and bounds. I must believe that the MM's see Dell having a blow-out quarter. If not, why would the stock be so strong? It's my understanding that Europe is strong. However, I don't have a feel for how the internet is affecting pc sales in Europe. Well, lets see what tomorrow brings.
