<<the return of 16 Mbit chips>>

Do they still even sell them? All I've seen for 2-3 months is 32 Mbit chips...even on the freebie side when you buy a new pc...even then they are min. 32 with a free 32 ugrade.

MB,

My oh my! <g> The charts and data tables in that Electronic Business article on MU and the DRAM industry are a must read. e.g.,

WW semiconductor / DRAM sales (in $B)

1995 144.4 40.8
1996 132 25.1
1997 137 19.8
1998* 113 12.5

* 1st 11 months of 1998

For In-Stat and SIA's forecasting record, you gotta check the link. Priceless!

Peter

MB, what's MU's market share in terms of sales dollars?

No, this isn't a trick question <g>

I went to that EBN link and came across the following data on total worldwide DRAM sales for the months of Sep/Oct/Nov.

eb-mag.com

Sep-98 1.24
Oct-98 1.34
Nov-98 1.51
----
TOTAL $4.09 bil

Their showing their hard numbers as coming from the SIA.

MU's 1Q'99 covered the same period.

I wonder what their market share is in terms of $?

MU's net sales of semiconductor memory products was $409.5 million [SOURCE: 10-Q].

The market was $4.09 billion [SOURCE: EBN article linked above]

That would imply...

...a market share of 10.01% over their last reported quarter in terms of $ sales.

Or perhaps I should put it as - a market share of 10.01% over their last reported quarter in terms of $ sales??!!!!

What the hell is going on with all these analysts out there saying they have 18% of the market?

Based on the EBN data and MU's sales figures they had 10% of DRAM market sales during their last quarter.

That's surprises me to the point where I'm going back and trying to figure out where I screwed up, but it keeps coming out the same. EBN gave DRAM $ sales figures for those three months, MU's quarter (Sept. 3, 1998-December 3, 1998) coincided with those three months, you do the math and you get a 10% market share.

WTF is going on here?

Good trading,

Tom
