Hi Mary - Your post was interesting to me because I also use a Dean Witter broker - way too espensive, same as you I do my own picks, the expensive commisions keep me from trading too much. Also, my broker has become a sort of mentor to me: he doesn't do the kind of investing(momentum - O'Neil) that I do but he understands it and I discuss all my decisions with him and he looks at charts with me and encourages me and/or warns me. Believe it or not, I have a broker who is a really good person and cares about me and has become an important friend. The commisions still bother me though and I keep wondering if I should change. Last summer, when I was trading on-line and using margin to the hilt and doing options and the market got sick, I lost a very large (for me) amount of money. Mark (my broker) won't let me use margin, which is probably good because I tend to be too impulsive and too dangerous. Mark just told me about the "active trader account" because I was asking him if I could download to quicken. At the moment I'm using "freerealtime" for quotes, but the problem is I can only get one quote at a time. Do your real-time quotes thru your active account work well?

I noticed that we have a bunch of the same stocks - excite/athome, cmgi, csco, lu, sunw, I just sold Wcom and of course dell. Today I have my first dell double! Do you think the excite/athome drop at the end of the day means anything, or was it just the market?

I hope you will excuse my verbocity. I was excited when I read your post.

Mary:<morgan stanley dean witter> I have same complaints about Schwab's site, and still want Mickey to buy the whole thing, cause the effectiveness of the web client interface, is THE missing link. Whoever REALLY "fixes" this interface, could almost deserve to own the whole thing...imo
