Hi, Toby!

Maybe I can answer some questions here...

That might be true that a lot of people would have never heard of the McAfee portal, much less, pay for that service. What you are missing though is that the service fee is not the only (or even primary) revenue stream! The portal is also for advertisers to put annoying ads on the portal. (Read: additional revenue stream!!!) I'll bet this is where they'll make their money off their portal. (Remember, Yahoo is free for users, but the advertiser have to pay big money to put those annoying boxes on top of your search text box. THIS is how Yahoo makes their money...)

Still not happy? You want some popular sites that links to this portal, eh? How about using Hotmail as a link to get to the portal? That should bring in some people... Whenever I get email with a file, I get the option of scanning the attachment using McAfee scanner (or not.)

Another one: Tons of people shop for software via Beyond.com. There's another link to the portal!

Does that address some of your concerns?

Cheers,
Joanna

the Internet is graduating from a consumer-focused business model to a business-to-business e-commerce. It seems to me that some well-laid-out target marketing would help Networks Associates--or maybe they could buy www.theonion.com or something to attract people to the NETA site (just kidding, sort of).
