Julian Chen: So far Cisco Mgmt has done an outstanding job with their PR Dept. AT&T (T) has turned up the heat...it will be interesting to see how Lucent responds! It appears that an "Oligopoly" is beginning to show its face with AT&T, TCI, @Home, Cisco, & 3com! The "Dragon" (T) has awaken to the realization that she must enter voice,& data...this bodes well for 3com! Cisco will drop out of the lower end of the mkt...she cannot compete in all areas! Too much drain on resources, and 3com will not sell out to anyone...she's in the best position of all the networks. Cable modems will increase significantly and 3com has positioned itself in this mkt...Cisco does not have a product that can compare to 3coms cable modem! I've heard that Cisco has some "quality" problems with their cable modem. Maybe that is why @Home has chosen 3com cable modems instead of Cisco's. AT&T appears to be departmentalizing their internet operations towards specific companies with specific expertise. The Lucent situation puts a lot of pressure on Cisco, moreso than any of the other networks...don't expect Cisco to continue to dominate the mkt...therefore smart money will leave Cisco and most likely find its way into 3com, primarily because 3com has more upside growth than Cisco.

Even if Csco earns $50c a share, its current price is still way overpriced. But this is not a normal market.
You are right, if CSCO goes down, it will bring everyone in the data networking down. But it could be similar to last year deep drop, Csco and LU will drop more than the others.

In retrospect, you are so right!

You said on Feb 1:
I don't think $ will flow from CSCO to COMS. If CSCO goes down
tomorrow, I believe it will bring COMS down with it. The best wish
is CSCO keeps going up and brings COMS up with it.

Julian

You got response from "someone":
Blah blah blah...therefore smart money will leave Cisco and most likely find its way into 3com, primarily because 3com has more upside growth than Cisco.

As a matter of fact, COMS only had outperformed CSCO for 6 months in 10 years.
