COMPAQ COMPUTER said sales of its new Prosignia personal
computer line sold via the telephone or Internet, jumped to more
than $1 mln a day, the Wall Street Journal said on Monday. The
company estimates that 70% of those sales would have gone to
rivals, primarily DELL COMPUTER and GATEWAY 2000 INC, Compaq Vice
President, Kenny Kurtzman, told the Journal. "We're getting
customers to switch from our major competitors," Kurtzman told the
paper. Surveys of customers who bought from Compaq indicated that
half would have bought from other direct sellers and another 14%
would have purchased another manufacturer's PC from a dealer,
