By the time earnings come out it will be back at 60, with this split. He doesn't like selling his stock for too much so everyone can buy it.

Every stock has its tradition of splitting at certain price.
For ORCL, it's about $60 historically and always 3 for 2.

I am sure earnings are fine....
GE announces splits after the stock hovers around 100-110 for a certain period of time. Ellison probably saw the stock blowing past 60 come earnings, and felt it was best to press the issue before he had to do a 2-1 or something not in his nature.
