Oracle (ORCL) Chief Executive Larry Ellison said Dell (DELL) will manufacture computers with the new Oracle 8i database installed and added that a similar deal with Compaq (CPQ) is "coming pretty soon." Ellison's statement follows the announcement late last week that Hewlett-Packard (HWP) would manufacture and sell computers with the new database pre-installed and pre-configured. "It's a great endorsement [of Oracle]," said Howard Love, principal at Silicon Valley-based Love Capital. He added that hardware makers don't want to be tied too closely to a Windows platform and that the Oracle link-up gives them another alternative.
