By non-browser based I mean they have their own program that uses the internet to communicate with thier own server to handle orders. For stocks they have a couple of routing options. I suggest you go to their web site at www.preferredtrade.com and check them out. They have an online demo of their program plus details of their various services and costs. I was impressed that (1) my margin/option account was setup in one day and (2) every time I have called I have gotten directly to a trader without being put on hold!
