djane, re: LM's obstacles with proposed acquisition of Comsat. 2 years ago I finally liquidated my [then] 8 year holding of Comsat on which I had achieved a compounded annual IRR of 0.025%--maybe.
I got into a long debate with Readware along the lines of: sure as hell, as soon as I sell, LOR will tender for it and I'll be skunked. My argument in part was that it would take someone of BS's political connections to run the political thicket necessary to untangle the mess.
Readware's response: not even BS would touch that bucket of worms. Too much pain for too little gain (Readware was not enamored of Comsat's assets, a few jewels to be sure but lots of ka-ka). So I sold, and bought LOR and some G*. As a result of which I have had more fun in 2 years than I did in the previous 10. The IRR isn't a helluva lot better, but, hey, money isn't everything. :-) Mike Doyle
