re: Possibility of Microsoft buying Egghead.com or BGP.

Very interesting!! The conspiracy theorist (thoroughly persecuted creature that he is) in me wants to suggest that maybe Microsoft and it's many evil minions (possibly with help from Borders itself with the nearly inept public relations and marketing) have been conspiring to keep BGP stock price low just in case they can pull this off.

That would be very interesting indeed!! Part of me wants to say that they'd be more likely to buy more of a pure Internet company, but what are the relative Market Caps? Is Borders expensive or cheap compared to companies like Amazon, BKS, Egghead.com (is that EGGS?), or weren't there a few others that sell books online?

If Borders isn't too expensive compared to them, I can see some huge strategic advantages to Microsoft owning Borders and all it's brick and mortar ... for both companies. Especially the international angle. I've gotten the impression that Microsoft's dominance abroad isn't quite as complete as it is here in the US.

Very interesting ... anyone else have thoughts, and or points to other places this is being discussed (I'll try to check the Microsoft Forums later).
