Interesting to see how LU leverages the GRF router. As its name suggests :Goes Real Fast, it is a fast IP router but it was incompatible with the existing bugs in the routers in place (Cisco's) as per Mory. They have spent the last year improving on it so I dont count LU to actively look for anything outside the house. Dont count Bell Labs out, they have great brains there. Its easier to improve on things rather than start from scratch. LU/ASND combo is very powerful but the analysts are too much in love with Cisco to consider that it puts so much pressure on Cisco that a tiny slip could send them rolling down.
With all due respect, Chambers said "Oh, we have been expecting this merger for a year and fortunately its a year late."
But in that year Ascend stole 80% of new Telco contracts so how did it help Cisco ? Zilch. The writings on the wall, if ASND could do all that alone imagine what it can do with the relationships and muscle Lucent has. All the uncertainty is not factored into CSCO hence it makes it much more riskier than just a blue chip tech stock.
I think the person who writes speeches for Chambers is on loan from Washington.

P.s I wonder if Cisco will ever break down their Telco sales. They never do as it will show the declining growth of ATM/FR switches but it will be a great quarter since it included Nov. and Dec. where companies spend their remaining budget.
