Brocade and Legato Partner to Offer Integrated Storage Network Management
Companies Enter Technology Partnership to Ensure Compatible Fibre Channel
SAN Management, Backup and Restore
SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Brocade Communications Systems, Inc., (BROCADE(R)) the leading supplier and pioneer of Fibre Channel Fabric switches for Storage Area Networking (SAN) and Legato Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: LGTO), a leader in the enterprise storage management software market, announced today a technology partnership between the two companies. Under the terms of the partnership agreement, BROCADE and Legato Systems will work together to integrate and ensure compatibility between their respective solutions to deliver open, integrated SAN applications and management tools. As a result of the partnership, mutual customers will reduce ramp-up time for moving critical SAN applications into production environments. In addition, system administrators will be able to manage SAN environments from within a single management console.
Announced in conjunction with the Legato vision of the Information Utility, where data is always protected, always available, and easily managed, this relationship will result in integration between Legato storage management solutions and BROCADE applications for managing BROCADE fibre channel fabric switches. In addition, both companies will share technology for development of compatible backup and restore applications for storage area networks, that will include support of wide area networks in remote, disaster tolerant configurations. Also as part of the agreement, BROCADE and Legato will undertake joint sales and marketing activities and bring co-developed solutions to their respective OEM, VAR and system integrator channels.
"BROCADE's standards-based Fibre Channel fabric switches are the foundation of the worldwide storage area networking market," said Peter Tarrant, BROCADE vice president of marketing and business development. "We are pleased to be working with Legato to ensure interoperability among our products and deliver standards-based solutions for managing fibre channel fabrics."
"Legato Systems is excited to work with BROCADE to develop interoperable, standards-based solutions," said Nora M. Denzel, senior vice president at Legato Systems, Inc. "The combination of Legato's industry-leading storage management products with Brocade's innovative fabric management capabilities will enable our customers to realize the vision of the Information Utility."
The Legato partnership announcement follows the recent BROCADE OEM partnership with Computer Network Technology to drive the adoption of disaster-tolerant SANs over wide area networks. In conjunction with the Legato Information Utility event, BROCADE, CNT, and Legato will demonstrate, for the first time, a remote backup and restore application over an ATM long-distance connection.
