Those polls primarily reflect the satisfaction of people with the current state of the economy. Much as they like to take credit for it, Democrat and Republican alike, the credit goes to the private companies who restructured over the last decade in order to compete with Japan and Europe, and to the incorporation of technology in order to become more efficient.

Much of everyone who is collecting entitlements contributed little toward the cost of those entitlements. SS costs were greatly expanded by the Congress beyond the taxes that were paid by those receiving it. There's a lot of fraud in the entitlement programs, such as EITC where the IRS estimated at least 25% were fraudulent. As for disability programs, those programs became quickly inflated after the Congress in 1991 made it much easier to qualify. There's tremendous fraud and abuse in the entitlement programs.
