Moynihan is a sort of neoconservative fellow traveller who never had the courage of his convictions, so it is in character for him to go into print bashing Clinton, and yet to vote for dismissal. As for Democratic triumphalism: after the election, they were sure that the House would not impeach. I told my son (going on 15) that it would, and that the Senate might convict, although that was not likely. The House impeached, and although I still think that the Senate cannot muster the votes to remove, I wouldn't "bet the farm". In any case, if the Republicans look like they're are going to take a hit on impeachment, I wouldn't count on the Democrats profiting from its defense of Clinton. They have staked their reputation on this guy, and he is known for letting people down.
