CNT Solutions Provide Critical IBM-to-Open Systems Connectivity to
Compaq's Enterprise Network Storage Architecture

biz.yahoo.com

MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Computer Network Technology (CNT®) (Nasdaq: CMNT - news) announced today a joint reference selling agreement with Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ - news) for CNT's FileSpeed(TM) and UltraNet® Storage Gateway products. As part of the Compaq Enterprise Network Storage Architecture, these solutions will be available to customers on a worldwide basis. In addition, CNT and Compaq will cooperate to ensure integration between products.

''The Compaq Enterprise Network Storage Architecture outlines our vision for providing storage as a flexible, shared resource throughout an enterprise to ensure up-time, scalability and security. Legacy system data continues to play a key role within the enterprise,'' said Ellen Lary, Vice President of the Business-Critical Business Unit of the Storage Products Division at Compaq. ''CNT's connectivity solutions offer a high level of integration between IBM and open systems platforms, providing customers with important solutions as part of Compaq's ENSA.''

In selecting CNT's FileSpeed data movement software and UltraNet Storage Gateway hardware, Compaq customers have high-performance, reliable and scalable IBM connectivity solutions as part of ENSA. FileSpeed is designed to quickly execute unattended bulk file/data transfers between S/390 and open servers with extraordinary data integrity, either interactively or through batch operations. The UltraNet Storage Gateway addresses bulk data movement between mainframes and open systems, and enables other SAN applications such as disk mirroring over campus and wide area networks (WANs).

''The Compaq Enterprise Network Storage Architecture offers customers a clear roadmap for building robust SANs,'' said Mark Knittel, vice president of marketing and business development at Computer Network Technology. ''Compaq's selection of CNT continues to validate the importance of legacy integration and wide-area networking in today's SAN architectures and our market leadership in providing these technologies.''

About CNT Technology

CNT's FileSpeed and UltraNet Storage Gateway are part of the company's Storage Area Network (SAN) offerings. FileSpeed is a high-speed data movement solution optimized for integrating IBM and open systems environments. The UltraNet Storage Gateway enhances the capabilities of a switch by allowing diverse protocols such as Fibre Channel, SCSI,
ATM, and T3/E3 to be integrated into the same interconnect platform, providing greater flexibility in a SAN infrastructure. The other products in the UltraNet family include the UltraNet Storage Director, a high-speed switching platform that allows users to move and share data among diverse servers and storage systems, and the UltraNet Storage Multiplexer, a product that allows multiple servers to share up to 15 storage devices.

About Computer Network Technology (CNT)

Computer Network Technology, based in Minneapolis, Minn., is a global company providing high-performance Storage Area Networking solutions, Enterprise Application Integration tools, and world-class support services. The company's Channelink®, FileSpeed(TM), and UltraNet® product lines offer high-speed open systems connectivity, access to legacy data, and guaranteed data integrity for applications such as remote storage, disk mirroring and disaster recovery. Troika Networks? Who are they??

troikanetworks.com

TROIKA intends to bring to market products which enable the
"wired once" network connecting servers and storage together
into a true System Area Network. To achieve this goal, Fibre
Channel must move beyond storage and become a true
network by supporting multi-protocols and by providing service
guarantees which make application scaling possible.

Some vendors of proprietary clustering technologies argue
that Fibre Channel is currently not capable of achieving
low-latency which is critical for scaling performance.
TROIKA's patented technologies for mapping low latency
interfaces like VIA over Fibre Channel puts these arguments
to rest.

Simplifying management and reducing Total Cost of
Ownership (TCO) will be critical to the successful penetration
of NT-based platforms into the data center. Fibre Channel is
already being deployed in the data center by IS managers for
networking storage. Thus, organizations are, today, allocating
precious budget dollars for investing in a gigabit network.
Information Technology organizations are not only making
hard investments in new equipment, but, they are also making
costly soft investments in deployment, administration and
training.

TROIKA believes that instead of investing in yet another
high-performance network for handling specific server-to-server
communication tasks, the investment should be made in
making an existing technology more capable. Furthermore,
that investment should be made in a technlogy which is open
standard and one that enjoys multi-vendor support. TROIKA
believes that its technology will deliver on the true promise of
the SAN architecture by delivering efficient, multi-protocol
networking capabilities to Fibre Channel.

Can someone in the biz see if they have any FC breakthroughs? Thanks in advance.

They use this term.....System Area
Networks

So they plan on moving FC beyond the SAN

Their job listings.....

troikanetworks.com

They want to make ASICs to get the low latency....

NT a focus?

So what are they gong to make? Fast switches?? Any help out there
