Notebooks, Notebooks, Notebooks. Going to grow like fire-ants this year. Everybody, everybody, is going to have one. The desktop is a declining dino. It's too freaking big and stationary. People are sick of filling up the house with them. Of looking at them. That's why they call them desktops. You need one to put all the crap on. With notebooks, you'll get your kneehole back. Your desk, office and classroom back. Your Life back. Civility will return. All the people who own one or more 'puters now are going to get notebooks next. People who hate computers are going to try notebooks. They're going to be The Scenery. Every kid who can, will have one. Every employee. Damn near every single one. The possibilities for business are unbelievable. (In field-service jobs alone.) They'll be phone/net/office/education/seminar/home/download connected. The machines are coming of age. Ferociously. Year over year sales of PC's in Japan: Up 80.6% Desktop; up 105.3% Notebook. Why buy a honker box and monitor for 1K? (Another one!) Portability, mon. Portability and size. And connection. Way, way, good. Low power consumption; very good. We're probably going to buy two this year. One for myself; one for the spouse. And if I had kids, two for them. Continuously, new features will be added. Amazing ones. The public is going to see it everywhere, just like cell phones. It's going to drop-dead fascinate them. Like Mini-vans and SUVs. Like the Net. DVD is coming too. I suspect Notebook growth will far exceed the predictions I remember of 18%.Kerblammy. (Insert effect.) As America goes, the World. This is the year it begins.
