J.D. Edwards Software Helps Seiko Corporation of America Respond Faster to Retail Store Requests

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 1998--

Flexible Software Automates Inventory Distribution and Increases

Customer Service

Enterprise business software provider J.D. Edwards & Company (Nasdaq:JDEC) announced today that Seiko Corporation of America (SCA), a leading supplier of watches and clocks, has implemented J.D. Edwards' WorldSoftware(TM) and uses advanced pricing programs and inventory allocation algorithms to respond more quickly to requests from retail stores that carry Seiko watches.

"The flexibility of WorldSoftware has helped us solidify relationships with key national accounts," said Bart DeLuca, CIO at SCA. "For example, it's quite common for retail accounts to insist that shipments be divided evenly among different store locations, particularly when they are intended to support a special promotion. These allocation scenarios can become complicated, but the J.D. Edwards software allows quick adaptation to changing business requirements, enabling our analysts to quickly update the allocation algorithm in the WorldSoftware distribution module to accommodate the change."

Less than a year after going live, SCA handles 4,000 transactions per day with its new enterprise system, eliminating processing limitations that had prevented the company from supplying additional services to retail stores. "The implementation went smoothly for a number of key reasons, but particularly because the users knew that a change was needed and were excited about it," DeLuca said. "Their early backing for and involvement in the project helped identify issues that needed to be resolved early in the process."

Consultants from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) facilitated SCA process teams, worked with J.D. Edwards consultants, and provided technical assistance in the development of interfaces required to bridge existing systems with the J.D. Edwards system. "The combination of SCA leadership, experienced advisors and flexible J.D. Edwards software helped SCA teams put their ideas into action," said Allen Krauskopf, director of the J.D. Edwards consulting practice at PwC. "The result was a successful implementation of a solution that will adapt to the future needs of SCA's business."

"In a matter of one year, we have gone from a situation of technological disadvantage to one in which we have the edge over our major competitors. In addition, we now have the information and capabilities needed to improve the management decision-making process, streamline organizational efficiency and provide more personal service to retail stores," DeLuca said.

About Seiko Corporation of America

SCA is a world leader in watch and clock products, possessing two of the strongest brands in the business -- Seiko and Pulsar. The Seiko and Pulsar brands have a combined retail share of nearly half of the $125 and over watch market in the United States.

The Flexitallic Group Gains a Competitive Advantage Using J.D. Edwards' Enterprise Resource Planning Solution; OneWorld to Fulfill the Need for Multi-Site Management Capabilities

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 1998--Enterprise business software provider J.D. Edwards & Company (Nasdaq:JDEC) today announced that The Flexitallic Group, a leading supplier of industrial gaskets and fasteners, has chosen to implement J.D. Edwards' OneWorld(TM) software solution to gain a competitive advantage. Flexitallic will use the multi-platform, enterprise computing solution to control inventory costs, respond quickly to customers, integrate manual processes to produce high quality products and hopes to resolve year 2000 issues.

"Our goal is to implement an ERP solution that can be easily modified to grow as our business needs do," said Stacy R. Ginn, vice president of information systems for Flexitallic. "We are pleased with our decision to implement a J.D. Edwards solution. By enabling us to easily integrate manual processes, such as inventory control into the system, OneWorld is expected to help us maintain costs and control inventory, which in turn means lower costs for our customers -- the ultimate competitive advantage. OneWorld will provide us with the tools necessary to succeed today, and in the future."

OneWorld, J.D. Edwards' multi-platform enterprise computing solution, allows customers to continue to scale, upgrade and evolve underlying technology, at their own pace over time, without sacrificing business functionality. Running on IBM's advanced series AS/400e, OneWorld will replace Flexitallic's existing antiquated system, with financial, logistics/distribution and manufacturing solutions.

"The J.D. Edwards solution allows our business to fluctuate as the market does. By keeping close tabs on our inventory, and with the ability to make adjustments whenever necessary, we are using manufacturing to respond to changes in market demand," Ginn said.

Working with Arthur Andersen, Flexitallic plans to complete its OneWorld implementation by August 1999. The software rollout will include sites in Houston, Deer Park, Canada, Chicago and Los Angeles. The company expects to make OneWorld its global standard within the next three to five years.
