More on con. call:

COncerns (Chambers) Healthy paranoia

-gloabl issues:
capital spending is increasing everywhere in the world. So, naturally if spending decreases Cisco could be impacted.

- competition/consolidation:
we projected consolodation. this is happening. we believe these acquistions success will be below 50%

- y2K:
We antipcate lower exp. due to Y2K issues towards end of calendar year. It should be a one time occurance and will have a rapid rebound early in 2000.

- govern. regulations:
We are educating government and they are recognizing that the internet is critical to the overall economic health of the US. New regulations could have an impact on the economy [jawboning going on here]

-More coming-

ampac -5%
japan - 5%
emea - 25% growth 10% (50% yr/yr)
no problems in UK like our competitors
americas- 65%?
US was a good quarter (challenges in some enterprise accounts

Generally 50% growth yr over yr worldwide..

Asia: Japan and AMPAC
Japan economic growth is in line wiht rest of company
AMPAC: we believe they have bottomed and are expecting good things in a year or two

Guidance:
pleased with growth, things have never looked stronger!
SP orders are large and lumpy. We believe that after these initial buildouts that larger orders will follow!!!! We are seeing major opportunities coupled with major challenges. We expect next quarter to be challenging. We expect our gm to decline over time. Goal is to grow above the industry growth rates - even at the size that cisco is at today.

IP data infra. will become the standard
circuit switching will be replaced

-more-

What about the new ATM Switches. When will they be out.
Don Listwin - MOst of the new ATM design wins are around the MGX8550 the new ATM switch. PSINet has 12000 but the others are all built around the MGX

Paul Weinstien (Credit Suisse)
Displacement in old world PBX - rate at which this will happenl
Listwin- the shine is coming off. Class 4 and tandem switchin is the first place this will occur. Expect flat to neg. growth in this space. no new Class 5 switches going forward. Telephone lines are now being returned to tels. as DSL and cable begin to deliver IP to premises...

Gotta run....
