World's second greatest hypster on LU/ASND, from OG's CSCO CC notes:

>>LU/ASND acq.::::
Viewed as formidable competitors but LU had to develop, partner, or aquire. ASND helps them with market share, and brings LU the ATM and dial market. Challenge... LU's revenue is predominantly old world dial
platforms creating a difficult environment...

LU will have difficulty due to weak visions, senior management departure, differing cultures, and proximity.

Even so we are assuming this company will be successful and are preparing to compete.<<

Sounds like weak pup LU doesn't stand a chance.

One more note from CSCO call (from OG):

>>SP orders are large and lumpy.<<

If SP means service providers, sounds like that $800 million missing from LU's last Q, doesn't it?

People actually expect Cisco management to acknowledge that LU/ASND merger will be successful ? What weed are they smoking on the CSCO thread ? Chambers and Co. have a standard response to any competitor merger : Geographical distance, cultural difference, different visions, senior management leaving etc. etc.
Helllllooooo !!! Have all successful companies that have merged been next door or had family on the board that shared a common vision or were youngsters that they did not retire for 35 years ???

What short memory WS has. Cisco said the same thing in April '97 after ASND/CSCC merger but they kicked Cisco's butt. If CSCC had not turned Cisco down they would be together today and Cisco would not have been forced to pick up Stratacom (and we would never be hearing this distance problem). Sour Grapes I would say.
