CTC,

Completely agreed. But DELL is indeed looking for other opportunities like server and storage and the preliminary results indicate that they are making excellent initial progresses in these two areas. My only concern was that DELL is tied too closely to MSFT and I have serious professional doubts about the perforance and scalability of NT5, whenever that materializes, and Sql*Server. But the Oracle deal has addressed my concerns that DELL management know good technology and opportunity when they see one.

And the market growth rate as projected may be too low. India and China are huge markets for starters with a combined 500 million+ upper-to-middle income group segment (about as big as USA and Europe SOHO market combined). Though DELL's forte has not been in this area I remain optimistic.

Then there's the Internet. If you are bullish about CSCO since it will sell more switches and routers, why not be bullish about the storage market as well? There may be an explosive growth of the storage market in future years. Now, Unix and mainframes will probably capture the lion's share, but DELL has displayed that it is not married to MSFT technology.

Finally, the 25% market capture may be a low figure if IBM and HP drift into oblivion and CPQ continues to shoot themselves in the foot.

In short, I remain hugely optimistic.

-Apratim.

Remember the mantra of the techies...

"Find the killer app!"

well...chugging down the yellow tech road: beyond word processing, and bill paying, then email, then voila...chatting , NOW the Internet...

People have a REAL reason to sign up now....and the computers have to be faster and faster....with broader bandwidth...

TV web.....and a "box" in every house...

Analogy....remember when we had one telephone....one tv....gracious...one cell phone....

WELLLLLLLLLL.........apply that logic to computers.....

and you can see...that 17% ain't gonna cut...it....

I expect...a fancier computer than this timex datalink watch...on my "b$5@@sll...anking wrist" by this time next year....

this ball has momentum...at last.....so "strap on your seat belts.."

all those new entrepreneurial/and even old stodgy companies are preparing a virtual feast for consumers....and they need computers...to do it....

and WE ARE GOING TO BE THERE....OWNING A PIECE OF THE ACTION...

yes!! smiles....Mary
