Mighty -- Perhaps some of the dumbest comments I've seen on this board to date: "Watch your stock tomorrow for a clue to the future." "Cisco: King of obsolescence" "This CSCO report has me grinning from ear to ear! It's the beginning of the end and I thought this run up was the signal. I was right. YESSSSSS!!!!!!" Gee Mighty -- I wish I could derive long term trends from one day of stock activity. Your comments are nothing but competing vendor banter -- and poorly thought out banter at that. Cisco's routers are no more obsolete than Lucent's PBX equipment. Both are still in huge markets. Traditional router market is still growing, believe it or not. I am continually amazed by the commentary on this board: "Lucent will slam Cisco." "Cisco is dead." etc. etc. What a bunch of shallow, short-sighted drivel. Both Cisco and Lucent are excellent companies that will compete long and hard against each other to get a good slice of an absolutely HUGE pie that neither competitor can swallow alone. Cisco doesn't even have to dominate the "New World" to be able to justify the huge premium its stock commands today. Don't fool yourself: Lucent isn't going to go belly-up, and neither is Cisco. Buy both damn stocks and enjoy the ride. I'll bet Cisco certainly doesn't underestimate Lucent/Ascend, and Lucent/Ascend would be very smart to not underestimate Cisco. Cisco is a truly dangerous competitor. If I were Lucent, I'd start wondering how to eventually replace traditional telco equipment revenues. I'm not saying they go away over night, but if everything is indeed converging over data networks, Lucent is starting from ground zero. Cisco, to put it mildly, is not starting from ground zero. On the other hand, Cisco doesn't have the established relationships with the big Telco vendors. Should be very intersting, and very profitable for both companies. Chill on the "cheerleading" Mighty. Way over the top.
