Why would they get excited? Car makers and the fuel cell industry are well aware of the properties of SOFCs. GLE's work is groundbreaking only in that they are developing a marketable product for remote low-maintenance power generation.

GLE is no Ballard. They are not developing new science. They are simply applying an existing (albeit young) technology to a market they understand. They have solved some production problems - but that doesn't compare to Ballard's work on PEM cells.

The potential for the application of SOFC to cars is not obvious. Remote residential power application is speculative. The use of SOFC for remote industrial generation, however, seems to be a sensible extension of GLE's current business.

The small turbine generators (i.e. TurboGenset) have more promise for residential applications, IMHO.
