E-mail Swamps Regular Mail

Seven times as many pieces of e-mail than regular first class "snail
mail" were sent in the U.S. last year, according to Web research firm
eMarketer Inc. It estimated 766.5 billion piece of e-mail sent in
1998, compared to the 107 billion first class items delivered last
year. eMarketer's estimate did not include commercial e-messages,
whose volume it estimates at 7.3 billion daily. In the data collected
on behalf of Fortune magazine, eMarketer said 81 million Americans
regularly use e-mail and receive on average 26.4 pieces of e-mail
daily.

One last thought:

"The MIT Sloan School of Management is stopping the Internet in time
for five years. It has created a Digital Time Capsule that will be
"sealed" in the cornerstone of the school's new Web site and opened in
2004. The Capsule contains predictions about the Internet in 2004 from
scholars, entrepreneurs, public officials and celebrities; a snapshot
of Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greespan's recent testimony about
Internet company stock prices, Web pages including one from
broadcast.com featuring an auction of a painting of Mike Tyson, and
MP3 music files. "

smile....mary (hopping off the box now...)
