the following has been stated in a variety of ways, fwiw - here's my take: i think most on this board are aware - possible firsthand - that ampex has always been a technically driven company. “driven”, to develop and deliver a product to market that has undergone test after grueling test to determine, locate and remove any “flaws”, however minor, with no apparent time constraints, to insure that the “ex” remains in ampex. there have been many successful market driven companies that have utilized this excellence to their own gains, not so much concerned with “perfectness” as such but, to capture their market and hold on to it with their latest revised version. “today” ampex is challenging itself in more ways than one and to meet those challenges head on, imo, they will have to become a hybrid of the two. todays' appointment of marione is a stride in the right direction. good luck to mr. marione regards, digger
