Shanghai has the highest percentage of cellphones (per person) of any city in the world. Asians have them implanted at birth.

Pardon me, Bonnie.

Things are changing fast in China. There are a lot of
young rich professionals there. And cell phones are
no big deal any more. It used to be a status symbol.
The coast cities almost look like HK or Chinatowns
in the States.

My regards.

Bonnie: here is a statistics I found: <<Major equipment manufacturers are focused on the telecom market in China, which has a 1.3 billion population. The public's communications links are relatively few, with ratios of 5.68 fixed lines and 1.07 cellular phones per 100 people. >>

So 1.07*13 billion=13.9 million cell phones in China.

And keep in mind that this 1.07:100 ratio is national average. So if only considering the big cities, the ratio is much much higher.
