It looked like these guys (OPC) were getting established in disk inspection around the same time as JMAR (1997). I don't know much else. I doubt JMAR has 25% of this segment because there appears to be a lot of competition. On Yahoo message board they site DPI Technology Systems, Systems Seiko, Phase Metrics and Hitachi as competitors. They didn't know about JMAR.

On the PR thing, I don't think they'd need it if earnings were where they should be. Paid PR is a difficult thing, where do you draw the line between hyping and PR? From my own experience, I seldom look at a company that has to PR itself. JMAR also has to be leery of the type of brokers that "PR" a stock. I don't think any major reputable analysts/broker would take on JMAR. Most good PR is free or by accident, like the IBD article in 1997. Did any of us first hear about JMAR through good company PR? I doubt it. We have a company that will probably earn less in 1998 than they did in the prior year. How do you erase that? If I were PR'd into looking at this stock now, I probably wouldn't give JMAR a second look after seeing declining earnings and the dependency on DARPA.
